Publication Description

The Gulf of the Farallones: Sidescan-Sonar Imagery; 2004, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2004-1082, 1 CD-ROM

This publication contains data collected during the U.S. Geological Survey's (USGS) geologic and oceanographic investigation of the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary continental shelf system in 1989. Data include a completed, digital side-scan sonar mosaic covering approximately 1000 km2 of the sanctuary and derived bathymetric contours of the area.

Predicted Seafloor Facies of Central Santa Monica Bay, California, 2004, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2004-1081

This Open-File Report contains the predicted seafloor facies map as a georeferenced TIFF image along with the multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data used in the study as well as an explanation of the empirical classification process.

Multibeam Mapping of the Los Angeles, California Margin, 2002, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 02-162

This Open-File Report provides the multibeam bathymetry and acoustic backscatter data collected during 1996, 1998 and 199 surveys of the Los Angeles, California Margin.

Coastal Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise: A Preliminary Database for the U.S. Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico Coasts, 2001, U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-68

This Digital Data Series CD-ROM contains a preliminary report of the National Assessment of Coastal Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise for the conterminous United States. In addition, the data used in these reports are included in GIS compatible format.

Multibeam Mapping of the Major Deltas of Southern Puget Sound, Washington, 2001, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 01-266

This Open-File Report contains contains the bathymetry data from the 2001 multibeam surveys of the major deltas of Southern Puget Sound, Washington. Areas surveyed are Nisqually, Puyallup, and Duwamish deltas.

Sea-Floor Images and Data from Multibeam Surveys in San Francisco Bay, Southern California, Hawaii, the Gulf of Mexico, and Lake Tahoe, California-Nevada, 1999, U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-55

This is an interactive CD-ROM that contains images, movies, and data of all the surveys the Pacific Seafloor Mapping Project has completed up to January 1999.

Atlas of GLORIA sidescan-sonar imagery of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States: EEZ-View, 1997, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 97-540

This CD-ROM contains GLORIA (Geologic LOng-Range Inclined Asdic) sidescan imagery of all the deep-water portion (more than 200 meters) of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) mapped during the 8 years of data collection. The images are accompanied by brief tutorial overviews of plate tectonics, remote sensing with GLORIA and highlights of interesting features from each of the geographic areas:  East Coast, Gulf of Mexico, Puerto Rico, West Coast, Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, Gulf of Alaska, Hawaiian Ridge, Johnston Island, Kingman Reef and Palmyra Atoll.  Interactive links to word definitions, enlarged images, captions, shaded-relief images and geologic maps make this CD-ROM an attractive introductory tool for high school or college classes discussing marine geology or mapping with remote sensing.

CD-ROM Atlas of the Deepwater Parts of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone in the Atlantic Ocean, the U.S. West Coast, and the Eastern Caribbean Sea, 1993, U.S. Geological Survey Digital Data Series DDS-15, 1 CD-ROM

This CD-ROM contains composite digital sidescan-sonar mosaics and geologic maps of the deepwater parts of the U.S. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in the Atlantic Ocean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the eastern Caribbean Sea.  The data on this disc consist of the fully processed GLORIA sidescan-sonar images, geologic interpretations of the images, bathymetry overlays for the images, 21 seismic profiles collected in 1978 along the Atlantic continental margin, and a three-dimensional perspective of the entire eastern Atlantic.  The GLORIA data on this disc were collected during 10 cruises between 1982 and 1987 for regions where water was more than 400 m deep.

GLORIA Imagery and Bathymetry from the U.S. EEZ off Washington, Oregon, and California, 1991, U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 91-396

The GLORIA digital sidescan sonar mosaics may be viewed online and downloaded here.
