Internet Map Server Description
Pulley Ridge is a 100+ km-long series of N-S trending, drowned, barrier islands on the southwest Florida Shelf approximately 250 km west of Cape Sable, Florida. The ridge has been mapped using multibeam bathymetry, submarines and remotely operated vehicles, and a variety of geophysical tools. The USGS Pulley Ridge Deep Coral Reef Region Internet Map Server contains published data layers and information from various field studies conducted by the Coastal and Marine Geology Program (CMGP) from 2001 - 2005. An example of the default map view is shown at the right. This map view shows the southern tip of Florida, the approximate Pulley Ridge boundaries and boundaries of various Habitat Areas of Critical Concern overlaid on a bathymetric image derived from the NGDC Coastal Relief Model dataset. Additional USGS published data available for viewing and download include multibeam backscatter, sidescan sonar, swath bathymetry imagery, bottom photograph locations and geologic interpretations. Other basemap data relative to the specific mapsite have been compiled from a variety of public domain sites and are also available for viewing and download. Within the Internet Map Server, data layers have been grouped within category headings. Clicking the appropriate data folder will expand or collapse the folder allowing the individual data layers to be displayed. Data layers may be "turned-off or on" by selecting the visible button beside the layer name. The map view will automatically update. A complete description of the available data layers and links to download the data may be found in the GIS Data Catalog.
