GIS Data Catalog
Below is a list of data available for viewing on the USGS Coastal and Marine Geology Program's U.S. Atlantic East Coast Internet Map Server. Data have been compiled from a variety of sources and most of the data are currently available on-line for user access and downloads. Though some images have been converted to geographic for compilation within the Internet Map Server (IMS), the published images may be available in a projected coordinate system. The specific projection and datum information of the published image is noted in the data layer description. To view the Coastal and Marine Geology Program (CMGP) digital data publications list, click here.
Please select a data category from the list below and expand the listing to review the available data layers.

USGS ecstdb2005 - classified (preview) - This data layer is a subset of the ecstdb2005 dataset and has been clipped to the extent of the mapview. It contains only those points that fall within the map view and those points which have been classified according to the Shephard classification scheme. The USGS East Coast sediment texture database released in 2005 contains the location, description and texture of approximately 23,000 samples taken by numerous marine sampling programs and processed by the USGS, Woods Hole Science Center. The zip file contains the complete data set. Type: feature - point shapefile (Source: USGS/CMGP) (OFR 2005-1001 / Data Catalog)

usSEABED 2005: Lab-based analyses (extracted) (preview) - Location of the known sediment samplings, inspections and probings from the usSEABED data. This data layer represents the extracted (EXT) output of the dbSEABED mining software. It contains data items which were simply extracted from the data resources through data mining. The EXT data is usually based on instrumental analyses (probe or laboratory) but may apply to just a subsample of the sediment (eg. no large shells). Type: feature - point shapefile (Source: USGS/CMGP) (DS 118 / Data Catalog)

usSEABED 2005: Word-based analyses (parsed) (preview) - Location of the known sediment samplings, inspections and provings from the usSEABED data. This data layer represents the parsed (PRS) output of the dbSEABED mining software. It contains the results of parsing descriptions in the data resources. The PRS data is less precise because it comes from word-based descriptions, but will include information on outsized elements, consolidation that are not usually in EXT data.
